Market brings life to Dewey Square at South Station

It's been a few weeks since the farmers' market opened in Dewey Square outside South Station, and one thing is clear: we office drones who emerge en mass from South Station every weekday morning to spend our days in colorless cubicles within colorless high-rise buildings seriously needed the burst of vibrancy this market brings.

The market runs Tuesdays & Thursdays, from 11:30am to 6:30pm, and at lunchtime and after work, the suit-and-tie set flocks here for fresh strawberries, greens, honey, eggs and meat, local artisanal products like breads, cheese and jams, along with bouquets of lilies and potted basil.

Located along the Rose Fitzgerald Kennedy Greenway, the market is sponsored by Rodale as part of the Boston Public Market Association. Sometimes live music plays, and recently tables and chairs have been added. My only complaint is that no one is selling salads or sandwiches that can be eaten on the spot--a convenience I'm betting the 9-5 crowd would love.

Totally agree with you. If only it had the goat cheese lady. The goat cheese lady used to sell little brown bag lunches packed with cheese, a baguette, maybe some other goodies, and silverware for making a sandwich. I wonder why she's not at this market? (Last time I saw her it was at Copley.)

However, what it DOES have is the Wonder Bar, at the bakery stand. No dessert has ever lived up to its name more than the Wonder Bar. Yum.
