At left, courtesy of the Szathmary Culinary Arts Collection at the University of Iowa, is the bill of fare from Abraham Lincoln's presidential inauguration in 1865. It includes an impressive variety of beef, veal, poultry, game, pates, smoked meats, salads, cakes and tarts, jellies and creams, ice cream, fruit ices and desserts, along with coffee and chocolates.
What about this year's menu? According to the Washington Post, it will include Italian chicken Roulade (stuffed with artichokes, peppers and pine nuts), along with tortellini in a roasted tomato cream sauce. Oh, and 10,000 bottles of wine. The Washington Convention Center's Chef Greg Sharpe will be presiding over the meal served to 42,000 ball-goers this evening.
